Action Through Enterprise is a UK- and Ghana-based charity focused on tackling poverty in rural Ghana. I was initially asked to create a sub-brand to mark their 10th anniversary, but the strength of the early concepts led to a decision to refresh the charity’s entire visual identity. The aim was to align the brand with a new vision of confidence and determination.

Development

The refreshed identity made the name Action Through Enterprise more prominent and assertive, while a connection to Ghana was reinforced through the national flag colours, the black star, and inclusion of the country name in the logo. The wider system drew on Ghanaian textile patterns to create a simple but distinctive graphic language that could be flexibly applied.

The rebrand energised the charity’s communications and people. Staff in Ghana embraced the new identity immediately, and wasted no time  painting the updated logo onto their office wall! The project also led to a follow-on commission to design the charity’s annual report.
