Brief: Greatest Hits Radio is Bauer Media's national network across the UK on digital, FM and AM, offering classic hit music from engaging presenters alongside local news and travel. Its network of local touch points and content lets advertisers and media planners run more strategic, consolidated campaigns across the UK. Thinkfarm was approached to update the brand for an audience with more recent cultural reference points.
Response: We created an updated brand world in the bright, angular Memphis style of the 80s, moving on from the more classic, gritty 70s of the previous branding. I acted as lead designer working alongside a 3D specialist and the creative director. Alongside a brightened colour palette, new font and postmodern influenced imagery, we kept hints of age and nostalgia through halftone textures and slightly grey off-whites and a retro, magazine-inspired layout scheme.

Typography
I adapted the type from Barlow Condensed to Alternate Gothic, a similar but sharper, crisper typeface that matches the angularity of the new brand. Its slightly different proportions meant custom drawing letters to work with the existing brand positioning lockup, "The good times sound like this."

Outcome
The result was a fresh look that was easier to control in application across more channels such as social media. An update to the logo allowed for more versatile use on different backgrounds. The work was delivered as a comprehensive brand guidelines document and asset library.
