My response to a motion graphics course brief to create a TV ident.
I’ve long been interested in the paranormal, and saw a gap for a paranormal TV channel that uses a horror movie aesthetic, and moves away from the typical sensationalist treatment of this subject on TV. I designed the concept to break the fourth wall, making the feeling of mystery more ‘real’ for viewers.
The name, ‘Unknown’ is an everyday word to describe missing information, such as on computers. This makes the feeling of mystery more real to viewers than using less common words like ‘mystery’ or ‘unexplained’.
Logo and typography
The logo is made to look like the letters come form an undeciphered writing system. This was the basis for a typeface, ‘Codex’, to be used in the brand application.
